Frequently Asked Questions

IS THERE An ENTRANCE FEE?

“Well… there’s nothing for mahala, buddy”
Green Africa Party is about INCLUSIVITY… we would rather have people support our talented performers by being at an event than staying away due to budget constraints. That being said, we are crowd-funded, relying on our own resources to produce our events. Many of the performers are also struggling artists, trying to make ends meet, so any contribution is welcomed, even if it is just the “Recommended Minimum Contribution” that will be advertised for an event… this can go a long way towards set up costs and simple things like travel expenses for the artists.

CAN OUR BAND JOIN YOUR EVENT?

Absolutely… we are on an ongoing basis trying to expand the depth and versatility of the Collective. Part of our “outreach” program includes “Open Mike” slots at our events. We also feature interactive sessions during band change over when everyone is invited to participate in a large, impromptu improvisation.

That being said, we are also stand for commitment to standards and consistency in quality for the type and level of bands that we feature in our events… so if you have not been introduced by one of the bands or performers acting as sponsor/referee on your behalf then we would need to hear some demo material and preferably see a live performance or recording thereof…

Should your band not quite make the grade of our selection process we would be happy to offer constructive input and make suggestions of possible options for improvement of the act.

IS THE VENUE FAMILY FRIENDLY?

Our “Homebase”, Klitsgras Drumming Circle is a colourful, funky and open air, relaxed venue having ample space in a rustic, comfortable setting with good facilities and easy, safe off-street parking… it is very child friendly, and we are proud of the inclusivity of the Green Africa Party that has families coming to have fun together with us, from toddlers to teens, Grans and Oupas, Greenies of all ages come together to celebrate the Cause and have a good time… not that we want to sound plastic and wholesome like some Garden and Lifestyle magazine, but actually that is just how it is. The GAP is all about bringing people together.

That being said, we do also have events at other venues around Gauteng, (and further afield when occasion arises) … being Green Africa Party we generally favour venues where we can be consistent with the ethos and vibe of the Party, but this may not always be Family friendly, or perhaps suitable for younglings.

Generally, we would indicate in the promotion for an event what the status of the forthcoming venue would be…

So if in doubt, just drop a query via social media or our contact page and we will be only too happy to advise you regarding an event.

CAN GREEN AFRICA PARTY PLAY AT MY VENUE?

Absolutely!
Please contact us to make arrangements…
We can send through a band or two, firedancers, stilt-walkers, or a whole deputation en masse…
We are happy and able to accommodate any space or budget

WHY DO CALL YOURSELVES A “REBEL MUSIC ORGANISATION”?

Well that is a fine question, now that you mention it, and we are so glad you asked!

Firstly, some might posit, on participating in our logistical and various open-input, strategic planning processes, that we are more of a Rebel Music Disorganisation… nonetheless, for the record, for prosperity, for simple journalistic self-indulgence and aggrandizement we invite your discerning opinion to consider the following points:

Rebel
We have in a prodigious assembly a wide selection of performers, all of phenomenal personal integrity and considerable calibre in their respective disciplines, devoted to refining their act and dedicated to the eternal quest of achieving excellence in their fields….

We have in entirety a more than adequate inventory of our own instrumentation, amplification and logistic support… so we can play anywhere and anytime we choose, independent on any authority, sponsorship or intervention to further the cause of Original Music.

Since we do not subscribe to bland conventions as far as the typical commercial choices of consumer mentality are concerned. Some of our artists may perform “creative interpretations” of established songs, but do so for artistic reasons.

We don’t play covers or try to “fit in a box” in order to get gigs, win popularity or get exposure… we aspire for authentic originality (as far as that is possible, granted the limitations of the Western music system and the hierarchy of the 12 tone division of the octave), engaging with our like-minded supporters on our own terms.

-in short, without apology, we simply present ourselves, giving the best offering we can make on the occasion… And our supporters like that.

At our events they’re enjoying just being themselves, with no obligation to conscribe to expectations of dress code or adhere to restrictions of pomp and circumstance. They can just relax, have fun and enjoy joining in the vibe… no hassles, no stress, and most importantly, no attitude!

Inspired by the lyrics and example of the great Robert Nesta Marley (in songs like “Soul Rebel”) we take the term ”Rebel” to heart, along with the free-minded, spirited, charismatic example of true humanitarian leaders such as Ernesto “Ché” Guevara and Nelson Mandela.

We aspire to explore the full scope of our potential without being obliged to maintain the status quo and follow the easy path of conformity.
Free thinking, unconventional, Öut-of-the Ördinary…

We’re unafraid to step off the convenience of the “moral highway” to make a stand for what we believe to be right, true and for the benefit of all sentient beings on this Planet.

“Rebel” in the spirit of next-level innovators such as Jimmi Hendrix and Nikolai Tesla … They were able to expand the scope of human understanding beyond comprehension in their respective fields… they did not achieve their quantum results by following the rules, being part of the mainstream, by subscribing to the norm or in any way settling for average… even if it is in only a tiny capacity by comparison, we resolve to do the same.

Music
• “If music be the food of love, play on” (Shakespeare)
• All matter is a vibrational frequency of energy
• Central to the performance arts, music forms the basis of reference for other forms to relate to… so although we focus our attention on the audio aspect of the senses, being for the most part an association of musicians,

The GAP welcomes and encourages the participation of all practitioners of creativity, be they poets, sculptors, dancers, thespians, lesbians, visual artists, performance artists, cunning linguists, orators, impersonators, daredevil prestidigitators, contortionists, illusionists, magicians, druids, grand high wizards or just someone ordinary with an extraordinary ability to amuse, entertain or impress with their display of skill.
